DIY: The Latest in Studding, Loafers, Boots And Bucket Bags

by Cynthia Francillon · November 11, 2011

If you weren't fully aware, DIY is in, and this latest trend has everyone spending their money on materials instead of already made items. Not only does DIY help save money (re-create what you can't afford!), but it also brings out that inner Martha Stewart in you. Check out how to stud your kicks and your bags here:

Loafers, which used to be known as something your grandmother wore has now become the go-to shoe, mostly because they're plain and easy to wear. But for many who aren't good with ordinary, a few tricks with a glue gun, fabric, and beads will have you content.

Shen over at Je M'appelle Shen gave a tutorial on her blog on how she DIY studded her leopard print loafers, and if you want to step outside the box of studding loafers and upgrade to even boots, Alyssa at Alyssa Zukas has an excellent tutorial as well.

When it comes to customizing bags, if you're  a little too tough for the plain ordinary bag look, stud it. Studding bags has been a go-to for a long time, from bedazzling clutches to imprinting spikes on carry-ons.

Bucket bags are the latest victims of the stud trend, usually studding the bottom to give it a stand. The blog Off The Rack gives a brief tutorial on studding your bag.
