Minnie Mortimer Brings The Hamptons To Cooper Square

by Cary Randolph Fuller · February 10, 2010

Minnie Mortimer debuted her fall collection last night at an intimate cocktail party in Cooper Square, and we're convinced that her crisp, bright, Hamptons-esque separates (and all those pretty, tanned guests) are to credit for delaying the imminent snow storm.

Like all Mortimer-centered events, Minnie's presentation at fashion spot Mina was a reunion of family and close friends. Brother-in-laws Peter Davis and Topper Mortimer both arrived, Topper with his pack of suited banker friends and an unidentified blonde date. Olivia Palermo, Annabel Vartanian, new bride Devon Schuster Radziwill, and Kristian Laliberte were also in attendance. Hayley Bloomingdale made an early appearance, as did Douglas Marshall, who covered Minnie's last presentation for GofG. Maggie Rizer arrived late sporting an enormous engagement ring, given to her by the lucky new fiance while skiing last month in Utah.

Of course a Fashion Week party report wouldn't be complete without a mention of the clothes! Minnie's pieces, as in seasons before, evoked long Indian summer afternoons on the East End. Polished cotton shirtdresses and striped silk skirts will look as good in twenty years as they will next season, and a sharp navy blazer lined in contrasting gingham was especially cheeky. Everything had a nautical tone, which feels overtly trendy in other brands but is very classic on Mortimer's hangers. With a pedigree like hers, no one does preppy better.
