Nothing quite marks the arrival of brisk winter breezes like the first donning of corduroy. In addition to being cozy, the fabric has inspired everything from a beloved children's book to a great Pearl Jam song. So it's no surprise that a Corduroy Appreciation Club exists to celebrate the textile tomorrow on the date that most closely resembles corduroy's parallel lines: 11/11.
The event will be held in the Old American Can Factory in Gowanus at 7pm. Author Sloane Crosley and Club President Miles Rohan will speak to the corduroy-clad crowd (a minimum of two cord items is required). Admission will cost you $11.11 (of course) and includes "Corduroy Inspired Cuisine," "new strange rituals," "a controversial announcement" and, in a seeming departure from theme, Six Point Craft Beer. So do as David Sedaris told you and dress your family in corduroy and denim. Just leave the jeans at home.
