Hubert de Givenchy and Audrey Hepburn

Hubert de Givenchy and Audrey Hepburn

The relationship between the French designer and the doe-eyed icon sparked the creation of one of the most famous dresses of all time—yes, that Breakfast at Tiffany's Little Black Dress.

Ever since meeting in 1953 on the set of Audrey's film Sabrina (where Givenchy was actually expecting to meet the other, more famous Hepburn at the time, Katherine), the pair became close friends and costume collaborators until the actress passed away in 1993.

In a 2012 interview with the Wall Street Journal, Givenchy remembered his late muse as

"wonderful. She was someone unique. She was real. She could do everything. She could do Shakespeare or other grand writers. She had it all. She was natural."
