Last night, Sarma Melngailis shut down her Irving Place eatery, Pure Food and Wine, to celebrate her new cookbook, "Living Raw Food." Wallse's Kurt Gutenbrunner and Landmarc's Marc Murphy both showed, maybe to see if the blond bombshell and well-known healthy eating authority behind the new book is onto something with this whole raw/no-cooking "cooking"...The evening included flowing sake cocktails and exotic bites such as king oyster mushroom scallops with chive creme fraiche and hijiki caviar, and pecan-pinot noir tarts with herb cashew cheese, marinated mushrooms and shallots. Yum.
