Where To Watch College Football In New York City

by Chiara Atik · October 6, 2009

It may surprise you to know that we here at Guest of a Guest love football. Or, ok, more accurately speaking, we love tailgating and nachos. And while New York City may not seem like a football-loving town, there is plenty of college football fun to be had right here in the Big Apple.  Not sure where to go to cheer on your beloved team? Well, check out our very (very.) comprehensive guide to official game watching bars for the 2009 season. Just find your college, break out your school spirit, and be prepared to cheer your team to victory with equally enthusiastic Manhattanites. They're out there, we promise.

Alabama: Crimson Tide fans can watch every Alabama game at The Ainsworth, where apparently the Staff will be decked out in red and white, and there will be drink and food specials for Alabama fans.

Arkansas: Mad Hatter Saloon is the place to go for Razorback fans. Not only that, but the owners have consented to displaying Razorback memorabilia on the walls of the bar, so if you have any spare Arkansas t-shirts or hog hats (pictured here, if you, like me, have no idea what a hog hat is), bring them over! Drink specials include $10 Razorback Red Ale.

Berkeley: CAL fans can go hate on Stanford at MJ Armstrong's in Manhattan or Pacific Standard in Brooklyn. Go Bears!

Boston College: Eagle Fans can head to Still in Grammercy to cheer for their team!

Colorado: Bar XII is gonna be Buff central for Colorado fans this year.

Duke: The Village Pourhouse is where the NYC Blue Devils are gonna be tailgating this year.

Florida State: Dewey's Flatiron is the 2009 home of New York Seminoles. There is a $5 fee for non-members (wah-wah), but special game-themed promotions at each event.

University of Florida: Gator Fans should head to the Gin Mill on the Upper West Side!

Georgia Tech: F.A.T.S. (Fat Annie's Truck Stop) is the place to catch Georgia Tech games.

Georgia:  Cheer on the Dawgs at Firefly Bar and Restaurant

Iowa: Are you a Hawkeye fan? Then head to Opal Bar. Hawkeye Specials include $5 nachos and $1 shots every time Iowa makes a touchdown.

Illinois: NYC isn't exactly Champaigne, but whatevs, you can still celebrate your awkwardly controversial mascot at The Australian, and enjoy $3 'Fighting Ilini", aka some sort of blue shot.

LSU: Legends is the official spot for LSU games this season. Drinks specials galore. Do you know what Geaux Tigers means? Yeah, that just means "Go Tigers", but spelled ridiculously. Who knew?

Maryland: Terps will be meeting up for games at The Copper Door Tavern. Bring your Terp spirit and get drink specials all night long.

Miami: There's a Hurricane Warning at Brother Jimmy's on Lexington.

Michigan: Metro and Professor Thom's are the two go-to bars to catch Wolverine Games.

Michigan State: Go to Blondies West or Mercury Bar East on game day, and you'll find drink specials, green shots, and possibly our own Sarah Kunst.

Ole Miss: Cheer on the Rebels at Joshua Tree, where you can also enjoy $5 nachos and well drinks.

Nebraska: Husker Fans can gather at The Irish Rogue in Hell's Kitchen. Maybe you'll run into Rachelle there?

North Carolina: Wolfpacks can gather at Brother Jimmy's BBQ and enjoy pulled pork, sweet tea, cheerwine, and hush puppies, PLUS 35 cent wings for the duration of the game.

Notre Dame: It's sort of hard to believe Notre Dame fans won't all be flying back to South Bend for the games, that's how intense they all are, but the Mighty Irish who are stuck in the city can find solace at The Public House, where for $10 you get unlimited soda, juice, and water! (But let's be serious: most people will be getting unlimited alcoholic drinks for $40).

Ohio: Why, oh why, oh why oh...why did you ever leave Ohio? Feel like you're back at home at Tonic Times Square. 50 cent wings and $5 Buckeye Bombs!

Oklahoma: The Overlook is the place for Sooners fans. And, by the way, what is a Sooner?

Penn State: Littany Lions can gather at Tonic East, and enjoy a Nittany Nacho Platter, and, uhm, Thai Chicken.

Purdue: Dorrian's Red Hand is the offical bar for NYC Boilers this year.

Rutgers: If New Jersey is just too far for you to go cheer on the Scarlet Knights, you can head to Butterfield 8, between 5th and Madison!

Syracuse: Syracuse can rally at Professor Thom's and hope for a good season for the Syracuse Orange.

Texas: New York Texas Exes can either go to Stout Restaurant and Bar or Hill Country to enjoy their Lone Star beers and cheer on the Longhorns.

Texas A&M: Calico Jack's Cantina is going to be Aggie Central for the 2009 season. Wear Maroon and get free A&M stuff.

Tennessee: UT fans have quite a choice, with Tennessee games being shown at Legends, The Wharf Bar, and Astin Little.

UCLA: Bruins Fans in New York can curse USC at Southern Hospitality.

USC: Galway Hooker is the place for big apple Trojans.

Virginia Tech:Manhattan Hokies can cheer their team to victory at The Village Pourhouse on 3rd ave.

Wisconsin: Are you a Big Apple Badger? Head over to Mad River on 3rd and 82nd. There, you can feast on imported cheese curds and Wisconsin lager.

Did we miss your school? Do you know something we don't? Let us know and we'll add it in!
