The nature of your memoir is deeply personal and deeply emotional. Can you talk about writing on such subjects?

It always starts with a feeling - something I regret deeply or can't get out of my head because it's so hilarious or made me break into tears. Then it's about writing the scene, moment to moment and making sure it's full of emotion. That's not hard to do when you're writing about the mortality of the people who brought you into this world.
