What does it take to be a great DJ?
I always say half the battle, if not 80% of the battle is reading the crowd. And that’s the hardest part about DJing, because technically we all get to a certain point where you can fade in and out properly enough to be a DJ, so you just have to figure out how to read the crowd. And the hardest part about my job, in doing more private parties and corporate stuff, is tailoring my playlist to people accordingly, which is fun and not fun, depending (laughs). I can usually gauge it but then you do fashion shows, and the designer has exactly in mind what they want.
What was the best gig you ever played?
I get asked that a lot, and I don’t know. I really enjoy it so I have fun all the time. I mean there are definitely things that stand out more than others but I couldn’t even tell you. The Apollo Benefit I just did was pretty fun.
