Who are your major influences?

Who are your major influences? I’m a really big fan of Tracey Emin. I love her sort of self-reflection. It’s not narcissism because she’s really harsh on herself and it’s literally like you’re marinating in her dirty sheets. The best moment of my life was when I went to go see “Art After Dark,” when they flash work in Times Square, and they were doing Tracey. I went up there with a really good friend and I tried to get close to her but there was a crowd. So we were just on our way back from Times Square and suddenly a car pulls up next to me and she rolls down her window and she’s just like, 'Wha’ ah you doin’? You need a ride?' And I get in her car! And she had a bunch of her friends in the car and we just took the long way. She was asking me all of these very motherly questions and I was just hyperventilating. It was really random. That was an amazing moment. I also love Anne Sexton, I love Anaïs Nin. Anaïs Nin, her work, that’s major, that's a Nin quote on my mirror. It’s always floating around my brain. I love Bukowski also. As much as I love the deep women writers and artists, there’s a part of me that loves the asshole men they love. I’m always torn between which one I want to be. Like do I want to be asshole Picasso making ugly paintings of all my exes or do I want to be the wounded woman introspectively punching all the men who’ve hurt me?
