Can you tell us a little bit about your spring gala coming up on April 30th?
Well, I’m super excited for two reasons.
1) We get to honor the artist Julian Schnabel. We’re an organization that really respects artists, and as a result, we don’t put them in a box. Artists hate being put in boxes. Julian’s such a larger-than-life kind of character, but he’s really just an incredibly sensitive man, and unbelievably talented, with unbridled creativity. And seemingly fearless, because he just goes into working with all these media, which few others would even dare to do.
2) We’re working this year in the Domino Sugar Factory. Since I started at Creative Time in ’94, I've dreamt about activating about ten major urban landmark spaces that ranged from the High Line to Governor’s Island, to the Armory, to the Essex Street Market building, but one of my greatest dreams was Domino. It’s like the last space on my bucket list.
