Interview: Hollywood Stylist Kate Young On Her New Target Collection

Last night, Kate Young and other celebrities stepped out onto the red carpet at Old School in SoHo to celebrate the launch of Kate’s new Target collection. The “spring fling” inspired event, hosted by Derek Blasberg, featured an exclusive private shopping area where guests could directly purchase items from the collection. In the main room, guests sipped champagne and nibbled on sweet treats. The collection will hit stores on April 14. We had a chance to catch up with the former Vogue editor turned stylish designer to find out what the inspiration behind her line was this season. We even got Kate's good friend Maggie Gyllenhaal to tell us her thoughts on the new collaboration.

What look did you go for tonight and did you incorporate any of the latest spring trends?

Debby Ryan: “I decided to mix things up, bring [the attention] north a little bit. I brought it to the eye. I like the idea of highlighting one thing… I like wearing something more vague of a print and then pulling the colors out with accessories.”

What are your feelings about creating your own unique line for Target?

Kate Young: “The design process is something I’m very familiar with, but doing it on my own is very new and exciting…. It’s been thrilling. It’s been an honor but also really creatively fulfilling.”

What has been the biggest inspiration for the collection?

Kate Young: “Making the feeling of getting all dressed up more accessible and also old Hollywood glamour.”

What are your thoughts about Kate’s new collection?

Maggie Gyllenhaal: “She displays her own personal style, as a person, really smart, down to earth, and sexy. I think it really comes through the clothes that she chooses and also in the clothes that she designs…. To make those clothes accessible to everybody, like a gorgeous, really beautifully designed chic dress for under $60, that’s great. It opens it up to a lot of people.”
