The Girls Of WorldFund On Becoming The Junior Committee Behind The Summer's Most Festive Philanthropy

The founder, Luanne, and I have a mutual friend who knew I was trying to get involved with a good cause. Luanne was trying to reach a younger demographic, so she made the introduction. We got together for coffee one day and decided I would throw together a party. She handed over the reigns and I realized I was in way over my head. I had graduated early from college in the south and all my contacts weren't still there. I asked Luanne if she knew any other ladies who were looking to get involved with the cause that would be professional enough to help plan an event. She fashioned the original team: myself, Lila, Sandra, and Erin. There were only four of us the first year, and now we’re up to 7 people on the junior committee. How does the Junior Committee Function? The junior committee is permanent and then each year each junior committee member nominates 2 sub-committee members to help us. We also rotate the junior committee members who get to sit in on the actual board meetings for the organization. It’s great networking. I think the board members are really intrigued and interested to know what we're doing. I get so many emails and people who give me their business cards saying 'I have a 23 year old who just moved to the city. You have to invite them to your party!'
