3. Widowspeak Widowspeak played an extensive line up during SXSW, proving that female vocalists and folk inspired tunes are never out of style. Widowspeak represents a romantic New York City. Singer, Molly Hamilton, lead her band members, Robert Thomas and Michael Statsiak, on a journey through a musical wilderness on stage. Songs like “Hard Times” and “Puritan” have a sweet sadness to them that are easy to get lost in. Widowspeak’s SXSW performance at Red 7 had more of a South Western chant than an assumed grit NYC bands get pigeon holed for maintaining. The purity that makes up Widowspeak can come off as a surprise since they have Brookyn roots. Once the band starts playing, all musical politics aside, it is too easy to fall in love with Widowspeak -- the band that is easy to trust for all forms of easy listening pleasures. Widowspeak will be playing at Death by Audio on 3/24. [Photo via]
