Gavin Degraw has a lot to be smiling about this Christmas. Apparently his chariot has landed, in the old Martignetti's Liquor spot on Houston and Allen (too bad the brothers didn't hold on to THAT spot). National Underground, is an old-school rock-n-blues tavern owned by Gavin and his Texas-bred partner Duggins King. The food part won't be open until this February, though they promise to be serving the best cheeseburgers in town. The bar opens this Thursday and, designed in true Degraw style is very unassuming with just a small mic on a stand in the corner, and no need for purchasing pricey tickets...this is old school rock at its finest.

That is a mighty serious claim. The best cheeseburger in town? He's going to have to beat Corner Bistro, the Parker Meridien, Goodburger NYC and L'Express. No small feat, that.
