Music To Your Ears: Bands To Hear This Week

by Mara Siegler · June 28, 2011

Want to rock out this week or maybe kick back and groove it slowly? Or perhaps, you just want to dance, dance, dance your personal revolution? You're in luck! As always, there are some great musicians playing this week that are guaranteed to satisfy your aural cravings.

    Tuesday, June 28

    Puro Instinct @ Glasslands

Piper and Skylar Kaplan take the stage with their band Puro Instinct looking and sounding all softly sunlit like they stepped out of Sofia Coppola movie. John Maus and Geneva Jacuzzi join them. They are playing Mercury on Wednesday, but the Alexander McQueen looking ceiling and quirky DIY-ness of Glasslands should be a better fit.

    Other Pick:

    BELL@ Public Assembly

    Weds, June 29

Matt & Kim, The Thermals @ Terminal 5

Chances are by now you know Matt & Kim. If you like them you love them, if you hate them...well, you know,

    Other Picks:

Greg Laswell, Elizabeth Ziman (of Elizabeth and The Catapult) @ City Winery

Ben Sollee @ Music Hall of Williamsburg

    Thurs, June 30

No Age, HEALTH, Cults, and Ceremony @ House of Vans

The House of Vans is throwing a FREE show! RSVP to info@fyffest.com and get there on time! It's first come, first serve with no lining up prior to 5pm allowed.

    Other Picks:

    Alicia Keys @ Beacon Theater

    Centro-matic @ Mercury Lounge

    Fri, July 1

Lower Dens, Dirty Beaches @ Southstreet Seaport

Lower Dens and Dirty Beaches are playing a FREE show at the Southstreet Seaport as part of the River to River Festival.  Last year, there was a riot during a show there, but we have a feeling these bands fans will be much calmer than the violent aggressors who came out to hear Hanson.

    Other Picks:

Thermals @ The Bell House Badfish @ Brooklyn Bowl

    Sat, July 2

    The Feelies @ Maxwell's

The New Jersey post-punks played between 1976 and 1992 and while never reaching mainstream success, did garner a cult following. Now their back with new material, their first in 19 years. Worth going to Hobken for.

    Other Picks:

Dream Diary, Bad Indians @ Death by Audio

    Free Blood @ Coco 66

    Sun, July 3

Panda Bear @ Music Hall of Williamsburg

The experimental musician and founding member of AnCo is playing Music Hall of Williamsburg. Put on your best Neon Raybans and jump into what is sure to be a hipster tidal wave.

    Other Picks:

    Million Young @ Brooklyn Bowl

    Glass Candy @ Mercury Lounge
