It is fantastic to see a band not only set up their own gear, but be supremely comfortable on stage as if they were just jamming in their living room. The Violens at Mercury Lounge exemplified this relaxed state and gave the audience a sense of peace to simply enjoy the sounds they were pumping out.
The Violens are steeped in various influences that it is almost impossible to pinpoint a singular defining sound, which makes for a refreshing and very enjoyable experience. Some songs have a certain "chiaroscuro" feel that leave you free and make you unknowingly move with the vast composition of sound; others are dynamic, ethereal rock tunes. The ever changing sound leaves you at the end of the concert wondering how the time flew by so fast.
