Who Controls New York: A Glance At The Observer's Power 150

by Ross Kenneth Urken · December 22, 2010

The Observer has compiled a list of the Power 150 in New York, comprised of the elite influencers of entertainment, business, technology, and politics. Lady Gaga comes in at 150. Find out who's number one.

The likes of Gilt Group CEO Kevin Ryan (50) and Jay-Z (46) are no surprises.

Emily Smith (42) seems a bit off, given the Page Six death-spiral we've seen of late.

Mikhail Prokhorov (38), the Russian oligarch who owns the Nets, has an ever-escalating influence on New York and reign of the city's Rusisan intelligentsia.

Online journalism empress Arianna Huffington comes in at a smooth 32, and Donald Trump comes in at 19 (a nice nod of Jared Kushner to his father-in-law).

Fred Wilson (18), co-founder of Union Square Ventures, represents a nice condensation of the tech-savvy venture capital spirit given hisinvestment foresight in Twitter and Forequare.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg, naturally, takes the cake at the number one spot.
