Celebrate The Final Voyage Of Space Shuttle Atlantis

by Jonee Nunes · July 8, 2011

This morning at Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, FL, the Atlantis launched into space for its final voyage. !  We hope for their safety while blazing the trails for U.S. spaceflight and research and think we should have a little fun for them.  Here's a couple celebration ideas for Atlantis' last trip!

Before launching, director Mike Leinbach left the astronauts with some words of encouragement,"For the final time, good luck, godspeed, and have a little fun up there."   We have never agreed with him more

    The Test Pilot

The Cocktail Chronicles provides a tiki cocktail recipe called the Test Pilot.  From what we hear, it passed the test of approval amongst drinkers.

    1/2 ounce fresh lime juice

    1/2 ounce Falernum

    3 teaspoons Cointreau

    dash Angostura bitters

    1/8 teaspoon Pernod

3/4 ounce light Puerto Rican rum

1 1/2 ounces dark Jamaican rum

Blend with 1 cup crushed ice for 5 seconds, then pour into double old-fashioned glass. Add more crushed ice to fill. Garnish with a wooden oyster fork with maraschino cherry skewered on prongs.

    Lost In Space Martini

In case you didn't know Tang was made popular on the Mercury space flight of John Glenn.  Although we hope this never becomes a problem for the specialists on the Atlantis flight, here's a recipe including Tang for the Lost In Space Martini.

    1 oz. Triple Sec

    4 oz. Vodka, orange

    1 oz. Tang

Roll rim of glass in additional Tang sugar (optional). Shake ingredients in a shaker with ice. Strain and serve in cocktail glasses.

    Armageddon

Having a girls night? Why not grab a cocktail and watch Armageddon? Here's two reasons you should the first, Ben Affleck.  The second Bruce Willis in his prime.  What more do you need to be convinced? Oh, maybe the fact that they're playing American Heroes with their shirts off.
