NYC Food Truck Now Offering Booze

by Mara Siegler · June 10, 2011

Today marks a great day in NYC food truck history. The battle lines drawn between fans of differing flavors may now be able to make a unanimous decision on who exactly is the best mobile restaurant in town. Introducing NYC first wheeled wonder to offer booze: The Turkish Taco Truck.  Service starts today!

The Pera Turkish Taco Truck is parked at West 67th Street and Park Drive in Central Park, filling the void of the shuttered Tavern on the Green.  They applied and have been approve by the SLA to serve beer, wine and cocktails. The price ranges from $6-$12 and there is one catch: drinkers must stay in the truck’s assigned seating area on the terrace, reports the NYT.

We're OK with that!  Staying in one spot in the park and enjoying some vodka, rum, gin, tequila and/or whiskey doesn't sound like it should be a problem.

Pera may be the first in a line of food trucks to offer alcohol.  Rickshaw Dumpling and Ladle of Love, also located in the same plaza, are rumored to have also applied for licenses.
