John Pierpont Morgan... possible founder? The private dining club that would become The Zodiac Club began in the mid 19th century, a time when the noun society was printed with a capital S. Originally rumored by the investigative journalists of the era to have been started by John Pierpont Morgan, it has since become clear the financier was merely a brother (Brother Libra to be precise). After chasing down gold in California, he returned to the North East and took up residence in Morris County, New Jersey. Yes, the baron was geographically undesirable for a brief time. He is most known for "Potter's Raid,' a Civil War Union campaign that he led through North Carolina.
