That is, it's only competitive if you make it that way. It's New York, so it's full of people who moved here because they were too good for their hometowns! If you're competitive, there will always be someone who is more successful than you, in better shape, or even better looking, and this mindset will eat you alive. Do not fall prey to it - it'll make you miserable!
