Probably the most notorious artist hangout in New York, the Hotel Chelsea has seen rockers, punks, and poets living and dying within its walls. William S. Burroughs, Kerouac and Ginsberg, and Charles Bukowski were just a few literary legends who have passed through, while Patti Smith, Janis Joplin, and Jimi Hendrix were some of the more musical residents.
