"Are we gonna settle for second best? No way, motherfuckers!" That's how the Queen of Pop began her surprise performance last night in New York City's Washington Square Park, a pop-up rally in support of Hillary Clinton.
Just minutes before the 7:30 pm show, there was a small crowd gathering around the fountain, typically a chill hang for NYU students and West Village locals. Whispers ignited and passersby stuck around, called their friends, and said "I think Madonna is coming!"
Sure enough, within moments, a small group started plugging in speakers and then Madge herself was in the middle, guitar in hand, her son David standing proudly next her. All of a sudden it became a classic New York moment and those in the know (and even those who weren't) were witness to an intimate show by one of the greatest performers alive.
With her American flag cap in place, Madonna asked the crowd to join her in singing "Express Yourself," "Don't Tell Me," "Like A Prayer," and of course, "Rebel Heart," interjecting with passionate words for HRC.

Fans and supporters held signs in support of Hillary and the LGBT community. Just a few security guards stood around the fantastically peaceful crowd, and had no trouble, even when the singer invited fans to dance in the middle with her.

Teasers on her Twitter and Instagram accounts hinted at the surprise, but the location wasn't revealed until the very last second. No wonder the audience seemed to triple.
