Trust The City

I am not the first person to say that New York is magical, and I will certainly not be the last. I don’t mean “magic” in the kitschy Taylor Swift “Welcome to New York” kind of way. I mean magic in the crazy Houdini kind of way. Hear me out, NYC was built as a background for people to evolve with.  You’re not the only new kid on the block, and the city knows that so it's going to put you through your paces. This is where the magic comes in; You might be in a rush out of the office and crack your phone screen in the elevator but happen to catch the only empty cab in Midtown at 5pm on an overcast Thursday. Or you’ll narrowly make it on the train before the doors close only to notice the screaming baby after you've already departed the station. It will feel like the city is hazing you! But one day, maybe it’ll be weeks or months after you move, the city will just click. You'll start knowing where to stand on the platform so you're near the exit at your destination, or you won't have to look up subway directions to that bar in Brooklyn, or you'll be able to tell a tourist where the best sandwich place in your neighborhood is. Once you realize you finally 'get it', you'll feel invincible.
