“In 1492, Columbus Sailed the Ocean Blue”

Today is the second Monday of October, which means it's Columbus day here in America, (coincidentally it is also Thanksgiving Day for the Canadians). This day of course celebrates Christopher Columbus' arrival to the promised land, where, because of the years of slaughter, oppression, and exposure of the natives to foreign viral agents, we have places like the one above (42nd and 7th avenue). This was taken by NYSocialdiary on Columbus day 2003 and is up on their site today. Surprisingly, everyone missed the most important thing in this photo. Holidays such as these are important markers of the passing of time. May this photo be a reminder to us all of the dramatic turns life can take in just a few short years, and the fact that we should all embrace the good in our lives today, because you never know what the future holds.  Today you might be on top, and tomorrow you might be in the gutter. Four years ago, we would have never imagined the existence of Britney's sons Tator Tot and Small Fry (though can't imagine life without the little guys), or her amazing fall from grace.  I mean come on y'all, she's so darn terrific.
