The Shinnecock Indian Tribe is about to make a 1.4 billion dollar bid to build a casino in Ozone Park Queens, right next the Aqueduct Racetrack. The Daily News is reporting that the bid would also include the Tribe dropping their legal efforts to build a casino in the Hamptons, a prospect that has been causing an uproar in the East End.
So for all of us lucky New Yorkers, this means we can now go lose Junior's college fund as close as 14.5 miles away! No more bus rides into the armpit of America to gamble at Atlantic City, or up into the boonies to let the dice fly at Foxwoods or Mohegan Sun. We can do it in the comfort of one of our very own boroughs. Yes, we can't wait for all of the negative social and economic externalities to be showered down on us...
