Random Weekend Getaways Outside NYC

    Tumblr can be a great source of information. Today's find: a guide to what to do on weekends if you are looking for an affordable getaway. Sarah Ashley of "LifeLovePursuit" put together this handy guide:  "Ever have the urge to get out of the city for the weekend and do something random? I’ve been researching and compiling a list, and here’s what I have so far for affordable (and not so much) adventures within a reasonable distance from this big beautiful city."

    Brandywine River in Chester County, PA $25 per canoe per 2-3 hours Paddle the Brandywine River and then relax at the 1732 Folke Stone B&B, a cozy joint with kick-ass original stone fireplaces.

    Harry Packer Mansion Bed & Breakfast in Jim Thorpe, PA $450-$650 per couple An over-the-top murder mystery victorian bed & breakfast, where you role play a murder story all weekend, channeling your inner Agatha Christie. 2 hours from NYC.

    Kayak tour of Shelter Island in Shelter Island, NY $45 per person for the Kayak Tour that takes you through awesome inlets and waterways Bonus: Once your done with the tour, grab fresh crab cakes at Planet Bliss then spend the night at the Olde Country Inn in the Heights, a Victorian B&B  that dates to 1886.

    Gurney’s Inn in Montauk, NY $300 per night + spa Services Seaside spa with seaweed wraps, gourmet cuisine, and in the summer - all you can eat lobster bakes

    The Villa at Saugerties in Ulster County, NY $95 per night Modern minimalistic mediterranean B&B, 2 hours from NYC, super quaint & romantic

    Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome in Rhinebeck, New York Take a fifteen-minute flyer over the Hudson Valley in a 1929 open-cockpit biplane or just watch an old-school air show. Bonus: Shack up afterwards at Beekman Arms, the oldest B&B in America. So old, George Washington slept here!

    Long Island Wine Country throughout Long Island, NY $10-$15 per tasting (some free) Think of it as a classy pub crawl as you journey from winery to winery Note: Bring along a DD or make a reservation at a local B&B. Car makes it much easier, some inaccessible without.

    Canyon Ranch in the Berkshires, Lenox, Massachusetts $1,700 per person for 3 nights (so hit the lotto or dial up your Sugar Daddy) Lap of luxury - spa, bike trails, salt baths, energy & enlightenment activities… Bonus: they have special romantic packages for couples that sound amazing
