The New Most Popular Dog Breed In New York Is...

No, you're not imagining it - everyone you know really did become a pet parent this past year. Among American dog owners, around 67% reported bringing home a new pup in the age of the pandemic, and with slower schedules and more flexible work-from-home options, that even includes us typically too-busy New Yorkers.

While small spaces and strict landlords might make finding the right fur baby a bit more challenging, a new survey by Rover proves that we still have plenty of adorable options when it comes to choosing the ideal doggo fit for city life.

So, which breed currently reigns supreme in NYC?

Depending on how many furry influencers you follow, you might be surprised to learn that nope, it's not Le French Bulldog!

We love you, Frenchies, but as of right now, Cockapoos have taken the crown.

The fluffy Teddy Bear-esque breed is a mix of Cocker Spaniel and Poodle. In addition to being absolutely freakin' adorable, they're also smart, super friendly, and stay relatively small in size. According to Rover, "They’re fairly adaptable, so they could be in an apartment or house, or in the city or the country, they’re just happy hiking, exploring, or just cuddling on the couch with loved ones." No wonder they make such great urban pooches!

Rounding out the top five list of the city's most popular pups are Havanese, yes, French Bulldogs, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, and American Pit Bull Terriers (who, by the way, are gentle and family-friendly!).

If you've been waiting for a sign that you should finally bring home a new best friend, we'd say this is it!
