The list of semifinalists for the James Beard Foundation Awards has just been announced, and we're already salivating. The James Beard Foundation Awards are known as the "Oscars of Food" for a good reason. Over 34,000 applications, a judging panel of 600 culinary professionals, and 21 different honors categories all culminate into one delicious ceremony on the first weekend of May. The James Beard Foundation was established in 1986 in commemoration of its namesake American cuisine maestro. The Award was then created in 1990 to honor the finest chefs, restaurants, food writers, restaurateurs, and wine experts.
