NY Restaurants Have Nothing On Curry Row

by SAMANTHA QUEEN · May 30, 2008

Last night I had the opportunity to relive my undergrad years with dinner at one of the many fine Indian establishments on 6th and Second. It’s not that I went to college anywhere near Curry Row, or India, or anyplace even remotely resembling either. It’s just that nothing brings me back to undergrad more than economy travel to far off places; and that experiential simulation is exactly what Curry Row has to offer. In addition to feeling scrappy, young, adventurous and Bohemian, the small strip of Manhattan boasts three courses of slammin’ Indian food for $8.95 ($4.95 for lunch), often with live sarangi and tablas to boot.

So, while my dinner at Taj kind of sucked – which is not, for the record, at all representative of my Curry Row experiences to date (the Taj Mahal, for instance, is much better) – the exuberance of youth and of limitless horizons satiated my soul. What other NY restaurant can offer you that?
