During the past 6 months, the adidas Originals label has licensed iconic Star Wars characters for its Spring/Summer range. While it may be debatable the merits of releasing these joint initiatives now. i.e. why?! adidas have released an AWESOME new video just in time for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, based on the classic Star Wars Cantina scene.-
“adidas Originals invites you to join David Beckham, Daft Punk, Snoop Dogg, Franz Beckenbauer, Noel Gallagher, Ian Brown, Ciara, Jay Baruchel, DJ Neil Armstrong and some of your dear, old friends for an intergalactic 2010 FIFA World Cup™ viewing party that you’ll never forget.”
With a great juxtaposition of old and new, the creative re-edit of the Cantina scene sees Snoop Dogg filling in for Skywalker and David Beckham playing up his foot injury.
The unique ad was created as a result of a close partnership with Lucasfilm Ltd. who granted adidas use of their film for this special execution - obviously at a very hefty fee!
Imagine if this line had been released a few years back with the Star Wars prequels in cinemas...it would have been a sales bonanza (not that it won't be now mind you).
The campaign will launch on TV in the UK and USA on June 12th. Sure makes you remember how cool the (original) Star Wars was!

I think this is a great promo! It’s really well done and has a lot of attention to detail. Boogie Studio remixed all of the original Star Wars cantina sound effects and character dialogue with the new ones from the celebrities and other characters. It’s a fun campaign and a great way to kick off FIFA 2010.
