When I was young I always dreaded going back to school after that month long holiday break. Well I am an adult now (supposedly) and the month break has turned into two too-short weeks. Back then, the only thing that was good about the new year starting was the new television season. We didn't have mid-season shows or replacement shows back then, just old favorites returning. Well its a new age, and now I get excited to see what the networks decide to throw at us. I am usually disappointed, but I have high hopes this year. Tonight, not one, but two new shows premiering featuring good friends of mine.
Over on NBC you can find "Superstars of Dance" with my old friend Susie Castillo. Susie is a former Miss USA and was host of TRL for years. Lately she has been guest-starring on TBS' House of Payne. 
"Superstars of Dance" is brought to you by the same team that brings you American Idol, Nigel Lythgoe and Simon Fuller. Susie's co-host is River Dancer Michael Flatley. The show's premise is to find the best dancers in the entire world and instead of individuals, 8 countries are pitted against each other. Last night was the premier and tonight the show moves into its permanent time slot, 8-10pm on local channel 4, NBC.

On rival network, ABC, you will find True Beauty, featuring another long time friend and colleague, Nole Marin. Like Superstars of Dance, "True Beauty" has a great pedigree and is brought to you by producers Tyra Banks and Ashton Kutcher. Another former TRL beauty, Vanessa Manillo, hosts the show and features Cheryl Tiegs, along with Nole as judges. The premise of this beauty contest is that the contestants, although beautiful on the outside, are being judged for their inner beauty. This should make for some interesting and most probably hilarious viewing. I can hardly wait for the bon mots lobbed by Nole, who never met a male model or snarky comment he didn't love. The show airs locally on ABC channel 7 at 10:00 pm, so you can watch both without even using your TIVO!
