Patrón’s Very Expensive Agave Julep

The Brown Hotel, a Louisville mainstay, created this riff on the classic julep with Patrón en LALIQUE: Serie 2 tequila (which comes at a $7500 price tag by the bottle) and Old Rip Van Winkle’s 25 year bourbon as the base, along with Kentucky Colonel mint, chocolate mint, chocolate bitters, key lime-infused caramelized demerara sugar, garnished with a sugar rose. It sounds like a lot going on, but trust that it was as easy on the palate as it was on the eyes. This cocktail sold for $1500 a pop (before you cringe, a portion of the proceeds was donated to the Kentucky Humane Society’s Equine C.A.R.E. Program, a nonprofit dedicated to providing relief to companion or recreational horses from crisis situations.
