Tao Strategic Group is headed down under for its next venture. The brains behind NYC and Vegas hotspot Tao will be opening a club, Marquee, which will be modeled after the Vegas club of the same name, according to Adelaide Now. Marquee is set to open late next month inside Sydney’s Star Casino, and it will be the first club for the hotel and casino.

The club will have a capacity of about 1,200, making it about 1/3 the size of the Vegas Marquee. In addition to three rooms and a patio with views of the Sydney Harbor, Marquee will feature a fireplace and a unisex lounge bathroom (not sure what will go on in there,) but it’s all part of the $870 million (Australian dollar) price tag.
This isn't the first time the group has opened a venue inside a casino-- the Vegas location of Tao is inside the Venetian Hotel and has been a centerpiece of the Vegas nightlife scene since opening in 2005. Kim Kardashian even celebrated her 30th birthday at the Vegas club/restaurant, and she and her family dined in one of the private dining rooms before the party began. Is Sydney the new "it" city? I guess we'll have to see if others follow.

I guess Sydney is the new 'It' city on a number of fronts! This is the latest in a global invasion of celebrity chefs, global retailers and big name bars/clubs. It joins David Chang's Momofuku Seiobo (his first restaurant outside of NYC) at The Star Casino. In addition, Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Burberry and Prada opened bigger and better flagship stores in the past 12 months, Zara opened last year and Dior and Topshop open this year. Also Heston Blumenthal and Gaston Acurio are rumoured to be interested in opening restaurants in Sydney!

Unisex lounge bathroom? Yeah, that'll be interesting.
