Will New East Village Rock Bar Actually Rock?

It might not heal the psychic wounds of a John Varvatos store moving into the old CBGB. But White Noise, opening next week, is bringing some rock & roll back to the East Village next week. But will noise of the musical variety be included?-

So far, pre-opening info is mostly limited to an Urban Daddy writeup. (Calls to the number listed by UD turned up...white noise.) But based on the space White Noise is taking over at 225 Avenue B (formerly The Hose, which was formally Uncle Ming's), the venue's layout is reminiscent of deceased Flatiron rock club Snitch, where patrons climbed a set of stairs to reach a narrow second-floor bar area.

It's unclear whether White Noise will match Snitch's musical chops. UD mentions "impromptu live shows," but there's no word on nightly programming. East Village rock fiends would welcome a new live music venue. Bars like Bowery Electric, Lit, Manitoba's, Otto's Shrunken Head, and Beauty Bar showcase local talent on their intimate stages. Mars Bar and Mona's feature some of New York's finest jukeboxes.

But the East Village has ceded live music bragging rights (in Manhattan) to the Lower East Side, where The Living Room, Cake Shop, Piano's, Mercury Lounge, and Bowery Ballroom host the brightest indie lights.

One thing's certain: White Noise will have White Castle burgers and Artichoke pizza on hand, at least for its Sunday "hangover party."

But I hope some decent live music prevents visitors from "contemplating the meaning of 'Stairway'" once they've ascended White Noise's steps.
