Environmentally conscious teens and parents gathered at the Tribeca Whole Foods Market to celebrate the Teens Turning Green and Organicworks for Project Green Prom. Real Housewife of New York City Jill Zarin came to support her daughter, Teens Turning Green co-President Allyson Shapiro Zarin (dressed by Nicole Ramonos black eco-dress) who helped plan the event with fellow presidents Hannah Gross and Nattie Kahn. The eco-chic event provided green alternatives for prom, from eco-friendly make up and hair products, to fully organic designer shoes and dresses featured in a fun fashion show, modeled by who else? NY teens!TTG director Jodi Shils orchestrated the educational soiree with support from plenty of eco-friendly companies, including Marco, who provided t-shirts and awesome re-usable bags.
Designs in the runway show included earth-friendly prom dresses created by Nicole Miller, Bahar Shahpar, and Luca Luca (whose dress closed the catwalk). Countess Luann de Lesseps was also on hand, along with Jill’s husband Bobby Zarin, NY congressman Craig Johnson, model/activist (and now author) Summer Rayne Oakes, designer Bahar Shahpar, and tons of New York teens including Chandler Moses and Phoebe Miller.
The event featured numerous green-alternatives for prom goers, including the Ozo car, an eco-friendly alternative for traveling on the big night. I also got a peak at the Verterra coasters, which were made of tree leaves and are fully biodegradable. Guests were treated to eco-friendly makeovers, flower and décor preparation, healthy eating tips, menu ideas, organic beverages, as well as advice on how to create a eco-friendly (but still stylish and lavish) big prom night. Teens were also able to participate in a Prom Dress Swap—a great alternative for “recycling” dresses for girls, allowing teens to promote a conscious and repurposing their beautiful dresses…not to mention, it’s a great way to save money!
The event was a huge success, and the gift bags were full of goodies, including Burt’s Beeswax. It was a truly one-of-a-kind night, and even my sister (who has a prom coming up), was able to find some great alternatives to the usual prom necessities. Congratulations to Teens Turning Green and Organicworks on a truly remarkable evening!
