Life Imitates Kubrick At The Masked Spring Ball For Save Venice

The Spring Ball for Save Venice may have been a little dressy for Stanley’s taste, but Truman Capote would have loved it. He might have noticed a shift in style though. Rather than the uptown traditional sit down dinner, this gala, held at the Bowery Hotel, offered only drinks, dessert and dancing. Luigi Tadini noted that he hoped the change in arrangements would make the event “a bit more open and free.” [Save Venice Write Up #1]

The ball managed to draw notables like Tinsley Mortimer, Roberto Cavalli, Devorah Rose, Kristian Laliberte and Olivia Chantecaille. Andrew Andrew DJ’ed and the lovely Bill Cunningham (who is surely as notable as anyone he photographs) was on hand to record the myriad of masks.

And if you were one of the unmasked attendees? No matter! The silent auction offered everyone an opportunity to bid on masks created by New York talent including Simon Doonan and Will Cotton. Each mask was, in some way, a tribute to Venice; Will Cotton’s was inspired by Venetian pastries, compelling him to use a preppy-proper pistachio green and petit four pink color scheme.
When the party ended abruptly at midnight, most of those assembled continued on to the after party at The Box. And that, come to think of it, is something Kubrick would have loved.
