Splashlight Studio Opening

Go HERE for more photos of this event by Ben Kaufman.

Splashlight Studio hosted it’s Grand Opening Tuesday night in Soho.  Peter Ruprecht showcased his ‘Monadic Nomad’ photo collection. The event was a definite success, with a large crowd of photographers, artists and models all mingling around  Peter’s photographs of India, his audio-video installation, and photographic images from Nepal.  To top it all off, they served food inspired by his adventures.

More photos and story below:

starlight studioRuprecht played quite the host, welcoming all of his guests as they made their way through his exhibit. I spent a few minutes talking to him about his journey and what it took to get the ‘the Monadic Nomad’ off the ground. He was very passionate about the cause he was supporting: Charity: water, a non profit organization that provides water to people in developing countries and the collection will fund freshwater wells and sanitation projects in India.

The DJ kept everybody moving throughout the night as well as a cocktail bar with some new and unusual drinks that I can’t even describe but must get the recipes to.. Amongst everything I did get a chance to meet up with designer Jerry Tam from ‘Project Runway Season 5’ who, like I had the chance to get a glimpse into India’s culture in a creative and sensational way.

I was invited to this show and had expected to enter into another gallery opening of a mish mosh of things. I was impressed the when I walked into a elegant space and was welcomed with cocktails and magnificant food. The space offered an energy of welcome, entertainment, and poetic photography. It was from different from any other other gallery openings I have been to in NYC. It was defined with class and attention to detail. The work was interesting and India is a culture that always proves to be awe inspiring. The Nepal Paper was impressive. The story of hand made paper of that size that was able to be printed on to show case photography was outstanding and quite luxurious. It blended the old, the new, the organic, and the modern created.
I have not seen anything quite like this and made me ponder of the exquisite ancient cultures that produced rich work on magnificant types of nature hand made paper.
The people were all interested and interesting. I found the energy of the night was a mixture of the art and great host who was always open to expressing his passion for his work and travels. Charity: Water has a nature extension of this evening and there work was touching and inspiring. The other artists were intersting with there place in the show. It was a fusion of nature and feminine qualities which I found interesting to think about all the work and make the connection.
It was a great mixture of art, culture, people, and a refreshing view of NYC and why it is the center of the modern world.
