Betsey Johnson Bids Farewell To Cartwheeling Down The Runway And Says Hello To "Betsey Crocker's Kitchen"

Betsey Johnson left the cartwheeling to the kids Monday as she debuted her Fall '09 ready to wear collection full of floral prints, lace, petticoats, ruffles, corsets, and Betsey's girlicious charm. She opened the doors to "Betsey Crocker's Kitchen" where a small audience gathered to get a taste of her "Recipes for Dressing" while partaking in drinks and snacks making her show the only one during fashion week where you can check out a collection while being served hamburgers on a platter by Liam McMullan and Nick Hunt. Guests included Izzy Gold, Lynn Yaeger, Anita Sarko, Michael Musto, and many other Betsey Crocker Johnson loving fashionistas.

Stones Throw Records CEO and hip-hop producer Peanut Butter Wolf may seem an odd choice to spin wax in between the acts on this experimental rock-ish bill, but there's more of a connection than one might assume. Within the last year or so, Leimert Park funk star Dâm-Funk, a Stones Throw act, became enamored with the swoony, groove-steeped tunes of Ramona Gonzalez, aka Nite Jewel, no doubt seeing her as a sort of artistic soul hermana. She too has a thing for the '80s, though her particular poison is a lo-fi swirl of hazy synth-pop, filtered new age and scuffed-up disco. She's got a new EP out called Am I Real, and the fresh-faced, aptly named local act Teen Inc. contributes to the titular track. Their style is decidedly dripping with the influence of Prince, but like Nite Jewel, they dress their adoration up in tons of warped-tape goodness. Heart Shaped Rock is another Ramona Gonzalez project, featuring songs written by Human Ear Music founder Jason Grier.
