Guest columnist and founder of ChiChi212, Brittany Mendenhall visits the newly opened Aspen Social Club.
Looks like I may be spending more time in Midtown than I thought. I already go to Highbar every Thursday, which is going to be even better when it's tented in and the heat is turned on, but I may also have to make reservations at the Aspen Social Club. The restaurant is located in the Stay Hotel on 47th street between 6th and 7th. The food is supposed to be delicious and the place may be worth the fight through Times Square.
I was in the ASC last week when there was wood all over the floor, plastic hanging from the ceiling and sawdust in the air. I walked in on Monday and didn't even recognize the place. The furniture is beautiful, including prototype chairs from a New York Times photo shoot, a dome made of ceramic antlers worth over $100,000, and a never ending forest.
Steve Lewis designed the place and I must say he's pretty damn good at what he does. He also designed Butter, Marquee and Amalia/D'or. The place is operated by Greg Brier, who also operates Highbar, and there's no doubt he's going to bring his boldface names over with him.
Once the place is completely done I'll be taking pictures of everything from the white gold antler mantelpiece to the $11,000 chandeliers. It's beautiful and you're definitely going to want to see and be seen at the Aspen Social Club.
