The Agora Gallery (530 West 25th Street, Chelsea, New York, NY, 10001) is proud to announce the opening of Ruth Gilmore Langs: Paint, a solo exhibition. Scheduled to run from November 20, 2009 through March 19, 2010, the collection will feature a captivating selection of Ruth’s new works.
Ruth Gilmore Langs approaches painting with an inner passion that becomes evident when one allows oneself to venture beyond the surface of the canvas. Once inside the painting, you are swept away by the magic of abstract expressionism in the hands of a truly gifted painter, a lover of nature, and a soul mate of other gifted painters such as; Diebenkorn, Hofman and Joan Mitchell. The journey through her work will enable you to experience the rhythm that is so essential to fully grasp her strength and vision as well as her passion. Ruth’s intuitive sense of color and composition is her natural state of being, it is her mind set, as is her ability to capture the landscape with the freedom of a child rolling down the hillside only to change direction by dashing up again to meet a clear blue sky. Here is where you find the magic, in the realization that when you truly allow the work to capture your imagination, you allow yourself the vulnerability of a child and dare to dance among the lush colors of innocence and thus surrender to the transformative nature of ‘Paint’.

If Scott says “ban”, then I say “ban ban ban!”
FYI, Solish’s “source” must know how to use Facebook, since Naeem’s profile is open and he has Eldridge listed on his profile. Good sluething Sherlock!

First. So down by the dumpster put on his best angela lansbury costume and was able to figure out that naeem is the door man at eldridge. That is a revelation only the hundreds of friends and acquaintances naeem has on facebook are privy to. Damn and we were really trying to keep it a secret.
Second. Is this the New York Times? No it is a blog that reports on nightlife, social life etc…We have a story that fits that criteria and I wrote about it. I am also involved with Operation Smile, ACRIA and Grassroots Soccer. I will be promoting them as well. Get over it.
Third. Can we just stop talking about this idiot? I don’t know a single person who reads his blah(g) and we can only be driving people to check him out out of morbid curiosity.
That’s all I have to say and won’t be mentioning it again…

rachelle, i am an avid reader of your blog. i also read dbth. however, i think that you are being inconsistent in your righteousness of how seriously you take you blog. first of all, if you shoo all journalistic principle out the window by proclaiming that this is not the ny times, then why do you also criticize dbth in your past posts for not having credibility by backdating posts, having bad information, etc. if you weren’t trying to keep a secret about a contributor of yours being the doorman of a place you were positively reporting on in your blog, then why didn’t you previously print it? also, the fact that you posted dbth’s email to you looking for clarification seems like an attempt to stem the bleeding. having a friend on facebook does not mean you are the doorman, and is not definitive proof at all that we should assume your contributor was hyping a venture he was connected with through your blog with no disclaimer at all. even eater called you out the other day saying that it was likely you were shilling for the eldridge. turns out that however you want to spin it, you were. like i said, i am an avid reader- not just of your blog, but of eater, grub street and (sorry) dbth. however, it would seem as though you just got caught shilling. this may not be the ny times, but we, your readers do expect some objectivity and this small fiasco seems a bit disingenuous. i’m kind of glad that dbth and eater caught you. i want to keep on reading, so please keep it objective and keep up the good work.
dear avid reader….i am reporting, not promoting. If you look at past comments they are not from me…i didn’t claim the ny times comment nor anything about eldridge, i am merely providing a platform for it to take place. I knew nothing about the Eldridge myself until hearing about it from scott and naeem. I am not sure if that means i’m schilling or not but i will support my friends ventures in this city. I also read eater, dbth, etc. I have myself remained objective….please don’t confuse me with any of my writers
thank you!

Your obviously shilling (getting paid) by surf lodge to promote. look at that interview you just posted every answer you gave was about Surf lodge. I go to surf lodge all the time and I like it as well. I also know you and your knew best friend Stephanie Wei as well and I think that you recently have come way off base with your reporting and who you are currently associating with. heres some advise Dont climb to high my little friend from the midwest. Also no one like a no it all.
For the record: i have never once gotten paid by any establishment in this city or out east. I honestly like the place and the service. Why can’t that be it? Have you BEEN there? have you TRIED the shit i have promoted. NO. because if you had you wouldn’t be wasting your time commenting on it. At the end of the day surf lodge in no way shape or form needs ME to promote them….they are in vogue, NYTIMES, bravo, discovery channel, etc, etc, etc as the HOT place of the summer….that’s not why i go there either. i like it. that’s it. sorry to disappoint you but i’m a little website. If they needed ME to promote them they wouldn’t be doing as well as they are now would they?
July 22, 2008 12:10pm
what a no it all? is it somebody who says no to everything…just curious?
July 22, 2008 12:13pm
dear avid reader-i don’t even know what the heck you are talking about, at one point you said having a friend on facebook doesn’t make you the doorman? what does that mean? have you been on facebook ever? When we say it is on Naeem’s profile we mean it is on the work section. Meaning when you go to facebook there is a section title work, where he has the name of artwing and his job as agent, guest of a guest as a contributor and the eldridge as doorman. There is nothing VAGUE about it, although your comment really is…

Geting quite testy my little friend whose probaly sitting by her computer right now at the surf lodge thinking of ways to use her blog to climb the social ladder. Climb away. Your from Nebraska and Stephanies fom Seatle. And we are worried about foriegners ruining the scene in New York. How about 25 year old girls from the West. I know that Jamie doesnt NEED guest of guest but every bit of PR helps. And I am sure that Jamie is not just being friendly to you because you and him him have a lot in common. You were probaly trying to get into Cain when it first opened while Jamie, at the door, was looking straight through you as your midwestern looks and at that point (un) style were not going to gain you access to his club. But then again you may not have even been in New York when Cain was first openend.

you people really need to get a life. did you read the post about the eldridge even??? there was nothing but facts in the entire article. the only comment about the quality of the space was when matt levine was quoted!

Social Climber:
“And we are worried about foriegners ruining the scene in New York. ”
Are you serious? History lesson: New York was BUILT on your so-called foreigners and that is what makes it fantastic. Reread what you wrote and you can see just how ridiculous you are. Disgusting. I havent met a single person who doesnt fall in love with the unjaded disposition of a foreigner. It’s refreshing to find someone navigating the fishbowl with a sense of wonder.
IF ONLY bloggers were paid to hype places. But alas they hype the places they truly love. AND Surf Lodge is certainly loveable.

look, i am a bit confused and as a fan, i don’t like being attacked by your anonymous contributors leaving comments here. the ny times comment used the words “we” and “i”. rachelle, you may not be the “i”, but you are included in the “we”, and if you are just providing a platform, you are still responsible for the people you are providing the platform for as the editor. that is your job. don’t get me wrong, i do not like to see these nasty comments directed at you as a person. that should be written off, but i am just trying to provide some constructive criticism. you can’t dodge that you are responsible for what is posted on this site and i’m not even sure how it all works. i mean, you are the editor, no? i know you didn’t leave the comment attacking my lack of knowledge about what i ’should’ infer about someone’s facebook. do you think i care about checking some random guy’s facebook that i don’t even know? if you are going to support something then you should be honest about it and give it a disclaimer. you can’t assume that we know the deal because it is on his facebook or mock us for not figuring that out, and you shouldn’t assume that a reader of another site didn’t send in the correct info. if you are going to do multiple posts about a club and have the guy’s partner shill for it (shill as in say good things, but neglect to disclose that you are associated with it), then there should be a disclaimer. because, it does change my entire opinion about the place because he is connected with it. so please, don’t attack me. i am not hurling insults, i am merely communicating my distress at your posts. bottom line is that you put this place in a very positive light and neglected to mention the involvement of people connected to your site. i, and i am sure many others feel a bit misled. i’m just telling you how i feel and trying to be honest with you. and, if your reporters are going to try to lambaste me in your comments section for citing a fair criticism, then they should at least not be anonymous.
dear avid:
weren’t you the same ip address that once told me this:
lame
66.253.5.34
rachelle hruska is everything that is wrong with nyc post-sex and the city. go back to nebraska.
ouch. doesn’t sound like you’re much of a fan:(
July 22, 2008 2:05pm
LMAO!! i love you Rachelle..
July 22, 2008 2:09pm
good sleuthing, rachelle. do you check the ip address of all of your commentors? or just the ones you disagree with? seems a bit stalinist, no? avid means i read your blog a lot. and you can infer from my prior comment that i am, indeed disappointed. never said i liked you and never said i was a fan of you. i am a fan of the blog and i want to like this blog, but you keep disappointing me. that’s all i’m saying. my criticism is meant to be constructive. check the tone of other articles in the blogs about eldridge and the comments. i am obviously not alone in my disappointment.
This is funny how “avid reader” is so “distressed”. Avid: Do you think Rachelle and Scott and Naeem are government officials or something?
@ avid reader: You’re attempt to sound honest and concerned “i do not like to see these nasty comments directed at you as a person. that should be written off, but i am just trying to provide some constructive criticism.” is perhaps the most disingenous thing I’ve read in the comment section given you’re comment history.
Oh, and you might remember that I used the phrase “good sluething” in the 2nd comment above. Some originality please?
July 22, 2008 3:05pm
whether or not the guy got caught out on some insult he hurled, and kind of looks like a hypocrite, he brings up some very valid points…
what exactly do u think is valid? I can’t wait to read you’re response…
July 22, 2008 4:13pm
I feel this is valid…
“if you are going to do multiple posts about a club and have the guy’s partner shill for it (shill as in say good things, but neglect to disclose that you are associated with it), then there should be a disclaimer. because, it does change my entire opinion about the place because he is connected with it.”
