The store, located in the 1927 landmark building The Mark, was designed by the Arthur Mattos Casas firm and was intended to evoke the Brazil of today. For more than 30 years, the ICC has been providing Israeli children with a safe, nurturing environment where they learn life skills through the sport of tennis. Today there are 14 Centers across Israel. These Centers now provide instruction and support for 9,000 Israeli children each week, making it the largest social service organization for children in Israel.
Uniquely designed programs have been developed that cater to the special needs of children who are developmentally challenged, who come from families regarded as "at risk," and immigrants who are seeking assimilation into the Israeli society.
In addition, ICC’s programs for Jewish and Arab children have become a powerful tool for promoting tolerance, developing cross-cultural relationships and ultimately peaceful coexistence. Research has shown that youngsters who grow up in regions of conflict are affected by the rhetoric of violence, with each group developing negative stereotypes of the other side. Sport has the unparalleled ability to transcend barriers of language, politics and religion and fostering acceptance and positive perceptions.
Please join us on November 5th, 2009 at 8pm at the Bowery Hotel to raise money for this incredible organization.
