The Agora Gallery (530 West 25th Street, Chelsea, New York, NY, 10001) is proud to announce the opening of Ruth Gilmore Langs: Paint, a solo exhibition. Scheduled to run from November 20, 2009 through March 19, 2010, the collection will feature a captivating selection of Ruth’s new works.
Ruth Gilmore Langs approaches painting with an inner passion that becomes evident when one allows oneself to venture beyond the surface of the canvas. Once inside the painting, you are swept away by the magic of abstract expressionism in the hands of a truly gifted painter, a lover of nature, and a soul mate of other gifted painters such as; Diebenkorn, Hofman and Joan Mitchell. The journey through her work will enable you to experience the rhythm that is so essential to fully grasp her strength and vision as well as her passion. Ruth’s intuitive sense of color and composition is her natural state of being, it is her mind set, as is her ability to capture the landscape with the freedom of a child rolling down the hillside only to change direction by dashing up again to meet a clear blue sky. Here is where you find the magic, in the realization that when you truly allow the work to capture your imagination, you allow yourself the vulnerability of a child and dare to dance among the lush colors of innocence and thus surrender to the transformative nature of ‘Paint’.

Back when we eulogized The Annex, we knew little about its fratastic replacement, Doghouse Saloon, other than the beer pong and free hot dogs on offer. (Talk about a swiney combo!) Now comes word that alleged uptown socialite Tinsley Mortimer graced the Orchard Street sports bar while shooting Empire State, her upcoming CW reality show. Will Doghouse prosper from exposure on the tween network as other downtown venues Antik and (token dive bar alert) 151 did on the CW’s Gossip Girl? Its owners sure hope so, as they’re under the Dinkens-era impression that the LES is the great hidden gem of Manhattan.
The Saloon’s press release alerts us to the fact that “No longer are the top Manhattan venues located in just well known locations such as the meat packing district but can now be found in the once forgotten LES.” Time to hitch your wagons parked outside of Lotus and make your way down to the island’s final frontier, ladies and gents. And hurry, because in only a month, Doghouse has already “helped make the LES become one of the hottest spots in Manhattan.” And you wouldn’t want to miss out on the gritty fun before the nascent ‘hood loses its edge to a wave of generic Sigma Nu satellites.

I have seen them absolutely everywhere. I do not think that they are not allowed into places. I also do not believe that it was Tinsley at this bar since I was with her that night. I do think she should stop having the publicists feed this site. I’m sick of hearing her name already.

The Doghouse is a breath of fresh air on the LES. This place is a lot of fun, in a young, energetic atmosphere.
Staff are friendly, cheap drinks, and a game room.
Don’t be afraid of change this place is def an asset to the community.

Can’t compete with Joeyboots intellectual comments, but the this bar reallt is awesome. Great crowd , cool atmosphere. Can see why the CW wanted to film here.

uh ya, saw here filming she was the only one in there. and if you ever saw the inside of this place that scene will def be cut. i’m all for change but this place isn’t even good as far as frat bars go. its always empty the prices have gone up, and the place is so bright. its just really lame in the worst ways. i’m shocked she filmed there and i wont be shocked when it closes.
