Bridesmaids
It's no secret that funny flicks are always neglected by The Academy. For a comedy to excel, to really deliver the laughs that have audiences rolling in the aisles, it has to appear effortless, which just can't stack up against the ponderous doom and gloom of heavier dramas.
Bridesmaids fits this bill, featuring a standout cast and an especially brilliant performance from Melissa McCarthy, who is deservedly nominated for Best Supporting Actress.
And yes, the film got a nod for Best Screenplay, but that seems like a consolation prize for one of the best movies of the year, violent diarrhea and all. Get a sense of humor, Oscar!
