“People Go On And On About How Disco Is Dead And It Ended But It’s Not Really True….Though There’s Not A Lot Of Good Dancing And Beatrice Inn Being Closed Is A Big Hit To That.”
Which New York filmmaker knows there’s no stopping the nightlife, while lamenting the loss of one of our city staples? Answer Below….
It’s Whit Stillman, in this interview he gave with Gothamist. Stillman’s “The Last Days of Disco” is restored and re-released on Criterion this week and screening tomorrow at Walter Reader Theater. With an ensemble cast including Chloe Sevigny and Kate Beckinsale, Stillman proclaims the film his “Doomed-Bourgeois-in-Love” work. Whatever it is, we love it and are thrilled about a comeback. And we think Whit’s right on with his take on the state of NYC nightlife. Has he heard of the NPC? Has he been to Jane?
