Who Are The Ten Most Fabulis Gay Guys In NYC?

by Chiara Atik · March 24, 2010

Have you guys heard of "Fabulis"? It's a site that "connects gay men around the world", basically by ranking them based on...well, that part's confusing. But the user-generated rankings basically make it an upscale version of Hot or Not for gay men, so obviously it's going to be a huge success. So who are these most Fabulis of men? -

The website, which has undeniably been influenced by Mediaite's Power Grid, is still in beta mode, but the fact that it hasn't officially launched yet hasn't stopped the founders from setting up a Fabulis Shop, where you can spend $50 on a hoodie or $65 on underwear (why does the underwear cost more??) to prove just how Fabulis you are. Which, frankly might be a necessary step, since post of the high-ranking people on the list are relatively unknown to the general public.

In a promo video they've assembled on Youtube, the founders talk about Marc Jacobs, Tim Gunn and Neil Patrick Harris...but funnily enough, none of those gay icons make it onto the Fabulis list. Let's take a look at who does...

[Most Fabulis Gay Men Of Los Angeles]

    1. Jason Goldberg

Jason founded the website, so he gets to appoint himself "The Most Fabulis Man In The World", even though no one knows who he is. He has also given himself the lesser titles of "Most Fabulis Foodie", "Most Fabulis Techie", " Most Fabulis Entrepeneur", "Most Fabulis Geek", AND "Most Fabulis Man In New York". Goldberg went to Emory and graduated from Stanford School of Business, and "made a shitload of money" on Socialmedian Inc. (his words). He made Fabulis because he said to himself "I want to build something for me!", and apparently something for him=a website where he can rank himself as king of the world and look at other hot gay guys. Judging by the startling montage of shirtless photos of himself on the company's intro video, it's pretty clear Goldberg thinks he's pretty damn Fabulis.

    2. Dustin Lance Black

Number 2 Most Fabulis Man In New York on the ever fluctuating list is Dustin Lance Black, which sort of makes sense because at least he has an Academy Award and is somewhat of a public figure. He even has a sextape! Unsurprisingly, Black is also # most Fabulis Screenwriter (out of four), #1 director (out of 15.)

    3. Christopher Willey

Christopher Wiley is the number 3 most Fabulis man in New York because apparently they're trying to get a "Fabulis" reality show on Logo and Wiley is the man who can make it happen. Well, public flattery is the way to do it, folks! Willey is also listed as Most Fabulis "God" on the site (they REALLY want that tv show!), but besides that, there doesn't seem to be that much that's particularly Fabulis about this guy. It pays to have friends in high places!

    4. Bradford Shane Shellhammer

Bradford Shane Shellhammer, the fourth most Fabulis man in New York, also works at Fabulis, surprise surprise. His job, in the words of Jason Goldbreg, is to "gay it up" in order to appeal to the apparently super-flaming target audience. Shellhammer graduated from Parsons and absolutely would not have sex with Arianna Huffington, in case she asks. He is the Number 2 most Fabulis Foodie, the Number 1 blogger, and the number one designer in New York. Take that, Marc Jacobs!

    5. Andy Towle

Andy Towle is Fabulis because "he is the leading source of gay news. Period." (But he's still merely the number TWO blogger in New York, second to the aforementioned Bradford Shellhammer.) Keep working on it, Andy!

    6. Choire Sicha

Choire Sicha, ex Gawker writer and founder of the Awl, is number 6 on the list of Most Fabulis men in New York. Lots of people love Choire's writer, but he's still a bit of a random choice...until you factor in that he a) has some acquaintances involved in it, and b) reluctantly wrote a little piece about it on his site. His post isn't exactly raving, but it's better than no post at all, and we're wondering if Choire's inclusion on the list would have spurned him to write. Whatever, Choire is pretty Fabulis, regardless.

    7. Bryan Boy

Let's let Bryan Boy tell us in his own words why he 's Fabulis. "..because I was born Fabulis, but I haven't yet figured out what else I should write here." Ok, that's not very convincing, but apparently his picture with Marc Jacobs is, because Fabulis users have ranked him #7 Most Faublis man in New York. He's #4 on the blogging list, but shouldn't feel too bad, as he is currently not only the Most Fabulis, but the ONLY Gay fortune teller in New York City! Well done, Bryan Boy.

    8. Christian Schoenherr

Like so many before him, Christian Schoenherr was "born Fabulis". He was also born really really hot, which might explain why he ranks so high on the list of New York gay men despite being virtually unknown. Oh, you know what else helps? Being the founder's boyfriend. And having a German accent.

    9. Stuart Elliott

This one is pretty perplexing. He is neither really really hot (sorry, Stuart), nor is he dating the founder. So why is he the 9th most Fabulis man in New York City? Because he's a great guy? Because he writes for the New York Times? What's the connection that we're missing here? And how far down the list is Stuart going to inevitably plummet once this site goes live? (Also, gotta love how the New York Times writer is listed as #3 on the "Journalist" list, AFTER two bloggers.)

    10. Derek Hartley

Derek Hartley is Fabulis because "his radio show is better than yours." Which, lets face it, it is. But more interestingly, he is the oldest of five siblings who all have different last names. Awesome! Also, he is pissed because he's #14 blogger, so he enlisted the help of his gay Facebook following.

"Dear gay guys who love me, you need to vote for me because I am fabulis. Also, my rating is too low."

Keep chugging at it, Derek! And also, classy picture.
