Elvis Presto, Super Bowl XXIII, 1989

In 1989, the high-tech light shows and pyrotechnics that are now a must-have for every Super Bowl halftime show hadn’t really been introduced yet. That must be the reason that the headliner of the ’89 halftime show was Elvis Presto, an Elvis impersonator/magician, whose main act was “the world’s largest card trick.” During the show, audience members donned 3-D glasses to see a pre-historic looking animation featuring Elvis Presto himself asking the crowd to pick a card. I’m not sure what went on next, but that was the last most people saw of Elvis Presto.
