Six Degrees of Mickey Rourke Continued…
Back in March we ran a piece on actor/clubber Mickey Rourke and how he hooked up a group of his NYC nightlife buddies with parts in The Wrestler. These guys of course are doormen at select Rourke haunts in the city (namely 1 Oak and Cipriani Sundays), and happen to also be budding actors (Though Wass Stevens has definitely gained a lot of traction over the years pre-Wrestler).

1 Oak Adds Transparency To Their Bar Receipts

Last September, we caught wind of some shadyness on 1 oak bar receipts, whereby it said “A 20% service charge has been added for Bottle Service Thank You”. Though unclear whether or not this charge was added, it certainly raised questions and perhaps some concerns about itemization, transparency, etc. Well alas, 1 oak has responded by changing the text at the bottom of bar receipts to now read “A 20% Service Charge will be added for Bottle Service Thank You.” Amazing how the simple changing to verb tenses can clear up any confusion! Much thanks to the 1 oak team for clearing this up.

Who Cares About The Vanity Fair Party When There’s An Oscar Viewing Party At 1OAK?

While some of us spent Sunday night ordering Thai food and trying to scrape up 10 bucks for our betting pool (ahem), other, more socially-inclined Oscar viewers gathered at 1OAK for Moet & Chandon’s Private Oscar Viewing Party. Kudos to Star Jones, Denise Rich, Lynn Whitfield, Scott Sartiano, Richie Akiva, and other party-goers for keeping it classy - just look at those golden statuettes!

With our city well into the recession, it’s time to take another look about how it is affecting our city’s nightlife. Many people I’ve discussed this topic with (including Steve Lewis 5 minutes ago), tend to think that we are on the VERGE of the next wave of decent nightlife. Marc Jacobs has even caught the trend, channeling the good old ’80s at his show yesterday, a time of bold fashion statements and even bolder parties and venues. “The party last night at Greenhouse (The Tracy Reese after party) was insane. It was cool, sexy and fresh. People everywhere are out again, I feel like the clubs are finally becoming “cool” again, like I’m back in 1985.” Exclaims Steve. Liam McMullan is one lucky guy. First, he’s finally a legal drinker, second, he has more friends than any 21 year old I know. Third, when his dad throws a party in this town, it is guaranteed to become the best party of the night. It’s a good thing Liam is such a sweetheart, because otherwise it’d be easy to dislike the guy. Last night found me at the upper crust stomping ground Elaine’s for Patrick McMullan’s 20th Anniversary Party. I have actually never been to the infamous spot, its heyday was a little before my time, and was thrilled to actually experience the place named after its crusty owner, Elaine Kaufman. I was not disappointed, and at times I felt like I was transported right back into the gogo 80s. At one point I was actually sandwiched between Marissa Berenson and Kathy and Rick Hilton, while Sylvia Miles sat across from me munching on the non stop hors d’oeuvre.

Malik So Chic is one busy guy! He hosts a party at Bungalow on Wendesday night, one at the Eldridge on Mondays, and now, he has joined LADY FAG to host the party at 1Oak on Sundays! “Super Sexy Sundays” is the theme and his following quickly obliged to follow him there, per usual, despite it being Grammy Sunday.

NYC DJ’s Shopping For Gigs In Secondary Markets?
We’ve all heard of actors or celebrities going to other countries to make scratch on the side. This was one of the focuses of the movie Lost in Translation, and generally speaking most people who do it like to keep it a bit hush hush so as not to lose credibility in their main markets (i.e. look like they can’t get enough work at home). So it caught our eye when we saw that DJ Jared, apparent resident DJ at 1 Oak, Marquee, and Mansion, is temporarily leaving his wheelhouse to head to Boston and play at Venu. So are they not paying you enough in NYC Jared, or was the offer to good to resist?

Check out the DJ’s Decal from last night’s party at B Bar. Apparently, last night, DJs Derek and Jen kept it punk rock up front while in back Mia Moretti and Molly Thompson held down the back room.
