When you're one of the world's most popular on-demand online music services, any party you might throw is going to have certain expectations attached. After all, how can a program that lets you stream (almost) any music your heart desires not come correct when it comes time to pick the bands to perform at your live event? Well, luckily, Spotify has clearly taken this responsibility to heart, as their "On Tour With The Big Green Bus" event kicked off last night in Silverlake with a stacked bill featuring GROUPLOVE, JJAMZ, YACHT, and The Henry Clay People, who clearly did not get the memo about all-caps band names. Common sense would indicate that the best time of the year to live in L.A. would be in the winter, when your friends everywhere else are freezing their tucheses off and the worst you need is a light sweater. But actually, it's just as nice now, when your buddies in Brooklyn are pretending to enjoy 90% humidity and you get to choose from the full range of summer options, from gay waterparks to pool parties. But don't get too tired in all that sun, kiddies: there's so much good live music coming up that you need to save something in the tank for the evenings. They say that everything old is eventually new again, and although that doesn't mean you should expect to see Hugh Hefner doing backflips anytime soon, it does mean that when a beloved mid-aughts band like Phantom Planet plays their first (announced) live show since their indefinite hiatus started almost five years ago, you can expect the general public to be appropriately thrilled. For their part, we know Alex Greenwald and the boys aren't living in the past, because they chose one of our absolute favorite up-and-coming local bands, Haim, to open for them last night at The Troubadour.
