Not just the dream of an exotic getaway, “Destination” is also an Alphabet City Bar. This can make things very confusing when you are directing people to the spot, not “a” destination, so much as, just, destination. Regardless, many from the NYC tech circle cracked that code to show up for Scott Kidder and Caroline McCarthy’s birthday party. More»

Obliterati held their monthly gathering last night at Gallery Bar, where Peter Feld, Rachel Sklar, Andrew Cedotal, and a beaming Rex Sorgatz gathered to celebrate “Days Of Awe”/Jewish New Year. Guests mingled, took pictures in a photo booth, listened to someone playing a tuba, and probably liveblogged.  Shana Tova, Obliterati: May your year be good and full of sweet, sweet networking. [The fruits of his labor. Andrew Cedotal's hard work has paid off today.] Never has a twitter userpic been more appropriate than Andrew Cedotal’s today. Pretty sure that exact manic, self-satisfied expression of glee has been on his face all day, from the moment Mediaite launched and almost immediately started crashing due to server overloads. We can almost hear his mad laughter from here (their offices are down the street from us on Broome and Broadway). More»

Hope springs eternal for the New York media industry, as evidenced by the huge turnout for Nick McGlynn’s second Obliterati party last night at Sweet & Vicious. “Jargaritas” and Buds were in every hand, as the techies, the writers, the editors, the designers, the dare I say visionaries, that are keeping the industry barely off life support, got together to cheer each others success, commiserate over “missteps” and maybe angle for a next step. Dan Maccarone (of Hard Candy Shell) has teamed up with former child actor and bar owner Mason Reese (Paladar) and Iggy Hughes (Iggy’s Karaoke Bar & Grill) and managed to do the unthinkable when in just six weeks they turned the former gay club Boy’s Room into Destination, a wood-and-oak paneled bar that’s sure to become the new media hotspot. Last night, he unveiled it to all his media buddies. More»

Was it a full moon last night? The 31st Day in the 31st Year on the anniversary of some….thing? Whatever the reason, strange, strange things were going on at M1-5.

Looking at all the pictures left me at a bit of a loss, so I enlisted the ubiquitous Andrew Cedotal (pictured at left, looking angry because people didn’t get his costume?) to help interpret the images…. More»

Gawker held their second big rooftop party in the drizzling rain, a perfect dark and stormy atmosphere for their “Blood Copy” party; a viral marketing site for HBO’s True Blood that managed to get Nick Denton’s crew into some hot water for the blurring of advertising and editorial boundaries. But no journalistic fangs were bared last night, in fact, we hardly saw any journos at all! [Photos via Nick McGlynn] Last night, following the Gawker rooftop party, media nerds everywhere flocked to the “Obliterati” party held at Sweet and Vicious bar. Nick McGlynn, Jessica Ollen, and Peter Feld were determined to bring back the social media meshing scene; following in the now defunct “Media Meshings” footsteps (put on by Richard Blakeley). Lost? Okay, Okay, first go here. Then read below for more…. More»

Members of APrivateClub gathered at the Library at the Hudson Hotel last night at the Hudson Hotel to celebrate the launch of “American Hotel Stories” published by Assouline. Partygoers sipped on Absolut cocktails and mingled while others played pool and flipped through the new hotel bible. A Private Club’s popularity seems to be growing with the ever-changing Facebook layouts and exclusive features the site gives its selected members.
